The short sequence that undoes a day at the desk — no equipment, all feel. This is the one habit I never skip.

If I only have ten minutes, this is where they go. Not a workout exactly — more of a conversation with my body before the day starts asking things of it. I’ve done some version of this flow every morning for three years, and it’s the single habit that’s changed how I move the most.

Why mobility, not stretching

Stretching lengthens; mobility teaches control through range. The difference matters. I’m not trying to touch my toes — I’m trying to own every position my body should be able to reach, with strength, so the reformer and the trail and the dance floor all feel available to me.

Ten honest minutes beats an hour you’ll skip tomorrow.

The flow

I move slowly through cat-cow, a few cobra-to-downward-dog transitions, deep lunges with a rotation, and end seated, working the hips. Breath leads everything — if I’m holding my breath, I’ve gone too far. The whole thing is barefoot, on a mat, usually with the sun coming in.

  • Cat-cow × 8, slow
  • Cobra to down-dog × 6
  • World’s-greatest-stretch, 3 each side
  • 90/90 hip switches × 10
  • Deep squat hold, 60 seconds

Start with five minutes if ten feels like a lot. The goal isn’t the routine — it’s showing up for it tomorrow.
